Remembering Dr. Bruce Jago

Flags on campus will be lowered at half-mast on Thursday, August 10, 2023 to honour and commemorate the life of Dr. Bruce Jago, PhD, PGEO, who passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2023 at age 66. 

 

The founding executive director of Laurentian University's Goodman School of Mines, Dr. Jago joined Laurentian in 2013 and led the School for six years. During his tenure, he created many new partnerships, scholarships and training opportunities for LU and international students, and the Goodman Gold Challenge. The School supported many different programs across the mining life cycle, from Geology to Indigenous Relations and many others. After his time at the Goodman School of Mines, Dr. Jago continued at Laurentian as a Full Professor in the Harquail School of Earth Sciences.

 

Colleagues, students, and friends will fondly remember him. His interest in exploring the world continued throughout his life and he approached each day with a sense of adventure, fun, curiosity and an unparalleled love for his family. He was widely recognized as a leader in his industry and regarded as an exceptional geologist.

 

A celebration of life will be held in the R. J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Thursday, August 10th, 2023 at 12pm. Friends may gather for visitation after 10 am. A reception to follow at Science North, 100 Ramsey Lake Rd., Sudbury, from 2-4 pm.
