Greenstone Gold and Base Metal Mapping Course

TARGET:

Professional geoscientists who have recently entered the exploration sector, or professionals who are new to gold and base metal exploration in Precambrian Shields

OBJECTIVES:

  1. RECOGNIZE THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES OF WORLD CLASS ARCHEAN LODE GOLD AND VMS DISTRICTS: Recognize the essential components of world class ore systems
  2. LEARN OUTCROP MAPPING AND CORE LOGGING TECHNIQUES: Recognize and describe rock types/structures, define map units, produce field maps and graphic logs
  3. LEARN EXPLORATION MODELS AND METHODS: Learn geological, geochemical and geophysical exploration methodologies

EVENING LECTURES:

DAY 1: Introduce the VMS model and key exploration criteria.

DAY 2: Introduce the Greenstone Au model and key exploration criteria.

DAY 3: Introduce mapping and core logging project areas.

DAY 4 & 5: Presentation of team mapping results and discussion. Industry guest lectures on VMS and Gold exploration models and methods.

DAY 6: Presentation of team mapping/core logging results. Map based geophysical interpretation and targeting exercise

FIELD WORK PLAN:

DAY 1: Regional Transect in the Noranda area including the Pontiac-Dalembert Fault (an introduction to rock types, structure, alteration)

DAY 2: The VMS Model bottom to top – Amulet – Powell-Horne area

DAY 3: The Greenstone Gold Model – Larder – Cadillac Break

DAY 4 & 5: Mapping and core logging exercises

DAY 6: Morning - mapping and logging exercises, Afternoon – Exploration Geophysics lectures

DAY 7: Displays, feedback on products and wrap up presentations. 

COST:

$3000/person (all inclusive cost except travel to and from Sudbury). $2800 for early registration by March 31, 2018 (non Merc members). MERC member discounts apply.
